The Duke Antimicrobial Stewardship Outreach Network, also known as DASON, is a sister program to DICON with the mission of promoting judicious use of antimicrobial therapy in community hospitals across the United States. DASON’s three primary areas of service are:
- Data collection, analysis, feedback and integration
- Educational initiatives
- Expert consultation
Antibiotic stewardship programs (ASPs) are now widely recognized as vital, even required, ways for hospitals to deal with the growing and severe problem of antimicrobial resistance. An effective ASP in community hospitals can also reduce the risk and economic costs of unnecessary antimicrobial therapy and, as a result, improve both patient safety and the hospital’s “bottom line.”
